THE LIFE STORY OF GAUTAM BUDDHA:
Buddha was born in Lumbini, 563 B.C. He renounced the worldly life and took off his royal robe and put on an ordinary dress at Kesari where King Asoka built a stupa in 304 BC which is now known as Visuddha Stupa. Siddharth or Siddhartha, later called Buddha, meditated for six years near a river called Nerajana. And he attained Enlightenment under a Bodhi tree, Bodhgaya. After Enlightenment, he turned the dharma chakra and gave teaching for the first time in Varanasi. He then gave teaching in Vaishali and Rajgiri. He later came to Shrawasti and stayed 25 years of summer retreat (25 rainy seasons) and this is a place from where he went to Tushita, heaven, to preach dharma teaching to his mother and returned back to a place called Sankisa. Finally he went to Kushinagar and entered into Parinirvana.
